“Think of yourselves the way Christ Jesus thought of himself. 6 He had equal status with God but didn't think so much of himself that he had to cling to the advantages of that status no matter what. 7 Not at all. When the time came, he set aside the privileges of deity and took on the status of a slave” Phil. 2:6-7
How do you see yourself? Do you think of yourself as equal to, or even better than others? If you do, chances are you are not very happy. Why? Because you were designed to contribute to the well-being of others-only then will you be at peace. If you serve, you bear the image of the one who created you. If you do not, you are doomed to a disfunctional existance of seeking to fulfill yourself in a myriad of empty pursuits.
Yes. Today is a day you can “cling to the advantages” of life lived for yourself. YOU can seek to align things for your comfort-for YOUR benefit. YOU can do just about anything YOU want. Or you can deside that you are here for something more. You can decide that your life is best lived when offered to others. You can grab the servant’s towel and seek to make life better for someone else. This is the way, the truth, and the life. You can transcend. You can escape. You can give. You can achieve a new status of greatness-SERVANT OF ALL.
“I tell you the truth, a servant is not greater than his master. A messenger is not greater than the one who sent him. 17 If you know these things, you will be happy if you do them.” -Jesus (John 13:16-17)
Live beyond yourself!
