my twenty minutes...

Philippians 4:6-7 (NIV)Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

What a great scripture to meditate with for a long distracted twenty minutes! Our challenge was to meditate on God for twenty minutes each day until Wednesday. Let me tell you about today:

00: - 04
I'm sitting out back in the garden by the pool relaxing and all is well when I hear the garbage truck out front, "Darn I forgot to put out the trash!"
04:-06
running to put out trash!
06:-10
Being still until I realize the I need to water some shrubs but quickly redirected my mind toward God
10:-14
started thinking about the church after a couple of minutes and caught myself praying about it-not really a bad thing just not truly meditating on God
14:-17 focused meditation until I realized just how many airplanes go by my house and got a little annoyed by it
17:-20 spent the next few minutes laughing at myself and hoping other are doing better than me...
in all I still was able to hear something through the prophet Isaiah...

I'll try again tomorrow

My 20 minutes... lasted 5 minutes, and I went from focusing on God to focusing about God. The meditation became day dreaming. It was still satisfying, but I failed nevertheless.

I started early this morning. My verse, be still and know that i am God.
yeah...
the first few minutes I was completely focused on God and coffee...i said i started early.
i kept redirecting myself and I finally was beginning to relax and my 7 year old comes in. Wow he's awake early. mommy i need started early. I explained that I was in the middle of something and needed to be alone and I would be done soon and come and get him. Back to God...then my 12 year old comes in and wants to know the lyrics to The Old Lady That Swallowed The Fly. i spent the last of my 20 minutes trying to fight the temptation to get on the internet and find out the lyrics while humming the tune. I failed miserably and am beginning to think I am a bit ADD. I'll try again.

I just read two comments from people who said they failed. Failed? I don't think so.

Think about it. You're sitting at home hoping, just hoping that one of your best friends calls you on the phone. The phone rings. It's your best friend. Right there, on the phone. You feel the joy just to hear his (her?) voice. Within a few seconds you feel the warmth and the closeness of great friendship.

Then, their child demands some attention or something else distracts them. They say, I'm sorry, I have to go, but it's good to hear your voice.

And it was good to hear their voice, too. O.K., it wasn't a 20 minute conversation, but you wouldn't have wanted to miss it.

Is is possible that God might feel the same way when one of His best friends calls? Don't forget, you're one of His best friends.

Failure? I don't think so.
